The host family and the au pair can cancel the au pair contract when they wish, but the notice period stated in the contract must be respected.

The au pair can inform the family in writing about the cancellation of the contract. In almost all countries, the period of notice is two weeks.

However, this can end immediately if they have seriously violated the conditions of the same. In case the au pair and the family have not signed a contract, the same way the notice period must be respected. There must be equal and respect for both parties, for that the family must help the au pair to find another family and vice versa.

In case of any misunderstanding, it is important that the family and the au pair speak it in a relaxed manner. From our experience, we can say that these conflicts can be solved by talking and not getting bigger.

Host families and au pairs have to come to an agreement to organize the steps that are needed. Once the contract is ready, you should notify the necessary authorities or organizations where the au pair is registered, especially if the au pair needs to process the visa. Afterwards, the au pair must decide how much longer he wants to stay in the host country, he can even make a family change.

Au pairs from the United States who are in another country of the Union have the right to stay in the country of residence when their stay ends.
