You have asked yourself, how long can you work as an au pair in the host country? You probably want to stay after finishing your au pair stay. But the rules are different in each country, so we advise you to know how much longer you can stay in the host country.

Germany EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 6 to at most 12 months maximum
Australia: 1 to 6 months (can be extended another six months if you change family)
Austria UE: No restrictions; no EU: from 6 to 12 months maximum
Belgium EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum
Canadá: 1 to 12 months maximum
Denmark EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months, it can be extended to 18 months maximum
Spain EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 6 to 12 months maximum or more with a student visa
United States: 12 months minimum, can be extended to another 6, 9 or 12 months
Finland EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum
France: 3 to 12 months, can be extended to a maximum of 24 months
Ireland EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum or more with a student visa
Iceland EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum
Italy EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 3 months or up to 12 months with a Working Holiday visa
Liechtenstein: 1 to 12 months maximum
Luxembourg: 1 to 12 months maximum
Norway EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 24 months
New Zealand: 1 to 12 months maximum
The Netherlands: 1 to 12 months
United Kingdom EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 24 months
Sweden EU: No restrictions; no EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum
Switzerland EU: From 1 to 12 months, it can be extended up to 24 months maximum, not EU: from 1 to 12 months maximum.
